From basements to hangars, it’s no secret the Missouri Aviation Historical Society has grown over the past eight years. In 2015 we celebrated a formal membership of 60+ members, and online viewership spanning thirty different countries! In addition we welcomed the St. Louis Science Center as our first corporate member. Being a local non-profit we are honored and privileged to showcase the best in aviation throughout the ‘Show Me’ state, along with celebrating our veterans sacrifices made to the United States. In early 2014 we began exploring ways to further our reach both locally and abroad, and after nearly two years of development we are proud to announce the society is now a federally certified non-for-profit with the obtaining of our 501(c)(3) this past November.
Being recognized as a federal non-for-profit opens the doors to many great things, and allows us to begin countless projects that have been suggested over the years such as beginning an online Missouri aviation portal. Outside of our status, 2016 is quickly shaping up to become a banner year. We are expecting a large display at the 2016 Spirit of St. Louis Airshow & S.T.E.M. Expo presented by Boeing this May. A draft submission of our book project with the Missouri History Museum on the history of Lambert Field was completed before the holidays as well with a tentative publishing date later this year. MOAVHIST is also working on establishing a formal ‘Missouri Aviation Hall of Fame’ that could see its first inductee’s by the next holiday season.
None of what we accomplished thus far or what we will accomplish in the coming year is without the hard work of our volunteers and membership support. We thank you once again for becoming involved, and hope to make 2016 a hallmark year for everyone. A full year’s schedule of meetings and events is currently being drafted, and will be announced as more details are solidified. Our meetings will continue to be held on the third Thursday of every month at 7:00 P.M.- Click here for full details.
