A Mitsubishi G4M bomber plunges towards the water after being shot down during an engagement with Fighting Squadron (VF) 3 defending the carrier Lexington (CV 2) of Rabaul on February 20, 1942, seventy-two years ago today. For his actions that day, Lieutenant Edward H. “Butch” O’Hare received the Medal of Honor.
